the problem with non-fiction...

One of the scary things about non-fiction is that it may, as your knowledge about issues grows, require that you actually do something about what you have learned. Some fiction can actually induce change, too. For instance, To Kill a Mockingbird was so powerful that it led people to reexamine their feelings about race. But most fiction is read for the simple pleasure of it and for the way it carries you away in mind and spirit from day to day concerns. Escape. Non-fiction doesn't always allow you to.

So, what the heck are you doing here? I'm curious. Does all this talk about making stuff actually lead you to the wood shop? I have a brief poll that you can take that will help me to better understand how you use this blog. So why are you here? Choose your answer at right and share it with others. You have one week.

  1. It's about hope. It's working into your body a declaration that I am going to have a future and it is going to be worthwhile enough that things should be well made.

It's about learning how to do things well even if I don't have the tools, space or opportunity right now. Perhaps I will soon.
